It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Mammano, Jr., of Port Crane, on Sunday, December 24, 2023.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Cheryl Mammano; sons and daughter-in-law Michael Mammano III, Samuel (Karen) Mammano; step son Christopher Paugh, grandson Michael Mammano IV and fiancé Kat Kapla; granddaughter Alyssa Mammano; brother-in-laws Gary Holcomb and Terry (Cathy) Holcomb & family; nieces Karen (Michael) DeSantis and Deborah Collesano; grand-nieces Gianna and Mariella DeSantis; sister Marilyn Salerno; close friend, Matthew Banks. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and (Florence) Patrina Mammano; nephew Joseph Salerno; cousin Patrick Mammano; sister-in-law Janice Holcomb; nephew Joseph Collesano.
Michael was born June 30, 1938 to Michael and (Florence) Patrina Mammano in Rochester, NY. At the age of 14 his father took him outboard racing on Irondequoit Bay in Webster, NY and for over 45 years Michael raced several classes of hydroplanes for pleasure, and won many National and World Championships, along with breaking speed records at several race courses. His life’s work also started when he was 14 and his father started a sign company in Rochester.
He worked there until he was drafted into the US Army. After two years in the Army, he made the decision to return to Rochester to work with his father in the sign company. After his father retired, Mike took over ownership in the shop. In time, both of his sons and grandson worked there, and the company is now run by his son Michael III. He retired in 1996, and he and his wife moved to St. David, AZ where he proceeded to become a master woodworker. His time in the Army garnered a proficiency of firearms, and in his retirement, he also did Cowboy Action Shooting competitions throughout the southwest.
After experiencing some health issues, he and his wife returned to her family home in Port Crane, NY in 2015, where he lived out the remainder of his life surrounded by loving family and friends. Our family would like to extend a huge hug and thanks to Lourdes Hospice. The nurses and aides were exceptional and made a difficult time for Michael easier. He was blessed to have Kim as his aide, who gave so much of herself to keep him comfortable and happy. Words cannot express our thankfulness. Private funeral service at the convenience of the family.
